Assam govt to observe Swargadeo Sarbananda Singha birth anniversary from next year

Guwahati, May 27 (IBNS): Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal conferred the first ever Swargadeo Sarbananda Singha Award to BTC supremo Hagrama Mohilary at a function held at Jerai Anchalik Spotrs Sanstha Playground at Jeraigaon in Dibrugarh on Saturday.

It may be noted that the Award was presented for the first time in the name of Swargadeo Sarbananda Singha who was the first ruler of Matak Kingdom at a function organised on the occasion of 212th birth anniversary of Swargeodeo Sarbananda Singha which started on May 24 and culminated on Saturday.
          
Speaking on the occasion, Sonowal acknowledging the immense role of Sarbananda Singha on Matak community in particular and whole of the State in general announced that from the next year on May 24 the government would observe and celebrate the birth anniversary of Swargeodeo Sarbananda Singha.

Stating the ideals and philosophy of Sarbananda Singha which had an undertone of impacting the development of Assam, Sonowal urged upon the younger generations to follow the ideals of Sarbananda Singha to contribute to the making of a vibrant Assam.



He also appealed to all the organizations of Matak to work to strengthen social edifice of Assam.

Sonowal said that Swargeodeo Sarbananda Singha worked for the equal  dignity and equal development of all irrespective of caste, creed and community and he requested everybody to follow the footprints of Sarbananda Singha to make Assam an ideal of development not only in India but outside also.

He also professed that for change in the society, change in mind set has to be brought in.
    
Emphaising on the need of diligence and dedication to expedite the development of Assam, Sonowal also mentioned the name of great footballer Babul Phukan of Jeraigaon who brought laurels to the village as well as whole of the State by virtue of his sheer diligence.

The Assam CM said that the Chair in the name of Aniruddhadev  at Dibrugarh University would be activated further and he announced that a sum of Rs 20 lakh would be given to university for the same.
          
Underlining the great role of Annuruddhadev, Damodardev, Sankardev, Madhavdev for the social, cultural and spiritual enrichment of Assam, Sonowal said that the government has earmarked Rs 1 crore in the current year budget for setting up of Sri Sri Anniruddhadev Kalakshetra at Tinsukia and said his government would release more fund for the purpose.



He also requested the people to maintain constant vigil on the functioning of his government and give feedback and guidance so that the government remains committed to the welfare of all sections of the people of the State.

BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary while speaking on the occasion conveyed his gratitude for honouring him with Swargadeo Sarbananda Sonowal Award and announced a financial assistance of Rs 1 crore for the construction of Swargadeo Sarbananda Singha Auditorium.

Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, Transport Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary, Ambassador of Laos to India  Southam Sakonhninhom, MP Biswajit Daimari, MLA Chandan Brahma, Vinod Hazarika, Sanjay Kisan, Rituporno Baruah and a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
