Ram Vilas Paswan releases New National Building Code on World Consumer Rights Day
On Wednesday, the Ministry organised World Consumer Rights Day at the DRDO Bhawan in New Delhi, based on the theme Consumer Rights in the Digital Age.
Since 1983, March 15 is celebrated as World Consumer Rights Day as a mark of solidarity within the international consumer movement.
It marks the date in 1962 when President John F Kennedy first outlined the definition of Consumer Rights, according to the organisation Consumers International.
In India, The Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution runs a Jago Grahak Jago scheme through its Department of Consumer Affairs to empower consumers through awareness and education as well as ensure consumer protection and safety through legislation, and timely and effective grievance redressal.
India celebrates National Consumer Day on December 24 every year.
