IGNOU offers programme in Urban Governance

Mumbai, July 21 (IBNS) Indira Gandhi National Open University( IGNOU) on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the All India Institute of Local Self Government(AIILSG), Mumbai for launching of a flagship Post Graduate Diploma in Urban Governance(PGDUG).
Speaking at the occasion, IGNOU Pro Vice Chancellor Latha Pillai said,” There is a dearth of urban planners in the country. At present 14 institutes in the country produce planners at the rate of 400 per year.
“The IGNOU- AIILSG partnership will upscale training to those in the country who want to make a career in urban governance. There is also an urgent need to go beyond just a diploma and synergize the research that’s been happening in various institutes on this topic.”
PGDUG , a collaborative programme between IGNOU and AIILSG , will facilitate the upgradation of skills and knowledge of the in-service candidates presently employed in various urban local bodies and NGOs .
It shall also be offered to other professionals like architects, engineers, officials in Realty sector , besides other bodies involved in urban governance, directly or indirectly.
The programme is also targeted at fresh graduates from different disciplines aiming at a career in urban governance sector.
PGDUG is open to graduates from different disciplines , however , preference will be given to in-service candidates working in agencies related to urban related activities.
The programme duration is 1 year and medium of instruction is English. The programme fee is Rs. 15,000.
The programme, being conducted by Faculty of Public Adminstration, School of Social Sciences, will be on 2 semester system basis and would be conducted in the Open Distance Learning mode.
It has 36 credits and would be conducted in the Mumbai, Bhopal, Vishakapatnam, Belgaum, Bangalore, Pune , New Delhi and Ahmadabad Regional centres of AILSG.
The examination certification and award of Diploma will be done by IGNOU.
