Kolkata groups remember Rituparno Ghosh with words, festival
Kolkata, Aug 23 (IBNS): Kolkata's Weavers Studio Centre for the Arts, in association with ICCR, is paying a tribute to late filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh on the occasion of his birth anniversary with a 12-day-long festival titled "Cinema Ghar-Through the Lens of Rituparno Ghosh" at ICCR here.
"The festival will focus on every aspect of Ritu Da, who left us before his time. Besides the exhibition his costumes, film posters, write ups, paper cuttings and rare photographs, will be exhibited. We shall be screening several movies as well,” said Darshan Shah, Founder of Weavers Studio Centre for Arts.
The festival commenced on Friday at the Weavers Studio Centre for the Arts at Ballygune with an interactive session titled “Aamader Chokhe Rituparno,”.
The "adda" was graced by some close associates of Ghosh like Moon Moon Sen, Anindya Chatterjee, Sudhesna Roy, Chapal Bhaduri, Renu Roy and Sangeeta Dutta, all of whom shared their memories with Rituparno as a person, giving out a visual imagery of some emotional moments they spent together with him. It was followed by a music performance by Srabani Sen, “Remembering Ritu through his Music.”
Journalist-turned-filmmaker Sudhesna Roy said, “Ritu was a very charming person who could get access into anybody’s heart if he wanted to. We all respected him for the way he thought, the way he lived his life according to his choice. He was a person with an uncanny sense of humour and would often joke at himself. A person submerged in the world of art.”
Rituparno Ghosh passed away on May 30, 2013 leaving behind a legacy of films like Unishe April, Dahan, Bariwali, Dosar, Utsav, Aar Ekti Premer Golpo, Memories in March (in the last two he was an actor), Subho Muhurat , The Last Lear etc . He is still remembered for his contribution to Tollywood industry and his ability to portray human emotions, feelings and relationships.
“He was like a brother to me, and would call me anytime he needed. My daughters, Raima and Ria were like his own daughters. He could make them understand them anything much easily than me. To Raima he was her preacher, philosopher and guide. He had more to give, but left us much before his time,”said actress-turned-parliamentarian Moon Moon Sen
The 12-day exhibition started on Aug 22 and will conclude on Sept 3.
