Kolkata/IBNS: The teaser of Emperor Vs Sarat Chandra, Srijit Mukherji’s ambitious new film for Durga Puja 2026, has been unveiled by Nandy Movies, offering audiences a powerful glimpse into a world where literature, ideology and rebellion collide.
Inspired by the extraordinary legacy of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay and the turbulent history surrounding his iconic novel Pather Dabi, the film explores the fascinating conflict between colonial authority and the written word.

At the heart of the narrative is Sabyasachi Mallick, the enigmatic revolutionary from Pather Dabi — one of Bengali literature’s most enduring symbols of rebellion.
The film brings together the worlds of historical reality and literary imagination, exploring a period when the pen itself could become an instrument of resistance.
The newly released teaser sets an intense and atmospheric tone, offering glimpses of the characters, conflicts and political undercurrents that define the film, while establishing the scale and visual language of this period drama.

Photo: PR TeamProduced by Pradip Kumar Nandy under the banner of Nandy Movies, Emperor Vs Sarat Chandra features a strong ensemble cast comprising Tota Roy Choudhury, Abir Chatterjee, Mimi Chakraborty, Divyani Mondal, Rik Chatterjee, Debopriyo Mukherjee, Sanjoy Nag, Koushani Mukherjee and Kanchan Mullick.

The film also marks an important new chapter in Srijit Mukherji’s creative journey.
He makes his debut as a music composer, creating the film’s music and soundtrack, while the background score is composed by Indraadip Dasgupta.
Speaking about the film, director Srijit Mukherji says, “Emperor Vs Sarat Chandra for me is the classic story of the pen as the underdog and the sword as the oppressor. It talks about the turbulent times of freedom struggle against the British, both in reality and fiction.”

The film’s visual world has been captured by acclaimed cinematographer Indranath Marick, adding to the period drama’s expansive cinematic canvas.

An especially significant creative element of the film is its makeup design by Somnath Kundu.
