'Aavesham' actor Fahadh Faasil says Malayalam cinema unlike other industries lacks OTT backing

Actor Fahadh Faasil, whose last release 'Aavesham' has created ripples in the box office, has raised concern over Malayalam cinema lacking the backing from the Over-the-top (OTT).

In an interaction with Baradwaj Rangan in Galatta Plus, Faasil said, "The trade has grown but Malayalam cinema even now doesn't have a solid backing of an internet platform. We need to prove in theatres for any of these things to come in. So it's not like rest of India where almost 80 percent of the films are sold even before the shoot is started.

"Our model is not that. We need to finish the film, release it, prove it and then.. So that way we are more self-sufficient I think. We understand the importance of making a film that's different and will make noise."

Director Jithu Madhavan's 'Aavesham' has garnered meaty numbers in the box office amid positive reviews.

Apart from Faasil, the action-comedy stars Hipster, Mithun Jai Shankar, Roshan Shanavas, Sajin Gopu in diverse roles.

Speaking on 'Aavesham', Faasil told Gallata Plus, "I have never approached a film like this. I have never been worried if the audience would like a moment or is the moment massy enough.

"For me, it is always about staying within the narrative and taking a call. But with 'Aavesham', I have left those doors open and explored. Our attempt was going over my boundaries."
