Prez agrees with govt, says NEET wont apply to states now

| | May 24, 2016, at 06:27 pm
New Delhi, May 24 (IBNS) President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday agreed and signed off on the central government's decision to postpone NEET exam for the states as of now, thus bypassing a Supreme Court verdict pertaining to the same, where the apex court made it mandatory for aspiring medical students to undergo the exams, according to reports.

A delegation led by Union Health Minister JP Nadda on Tuesday morning at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, met President Pranab Mukherjee, who signed the agreement there.

The Supreme Court had ordered the states and central government to make NEET mandatory, considering reports of cheating in state conducted medical entrance examinations.

The states had opposed the verdict by the apex court, stating disadvantage for regional students if the new rule is implemented.
