Stunning debut : Vijay thanks PM Modi and Rahul Gandhi for wishes after TN Assembly poll win

| @indiablooms | May 05, 2026, at 06:39 pm

Vijay, chief of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), on Tuesday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for congratulating his party on its impressive debut in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections—an outcome that has disrupted the long-standing dominance of the DMK and AIADMK.

Responding to Prime Minister Modi on X, Vijay wrote: “Thank you, Hon’ble @PMOIndia, for your greetings. The well-being of our people remains our only goal.”

He added that his party would rise above political differences. “Transcending politics, we shall focus on the state’s progress and the welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu. We look forward to the Union Government’s support in this endeavour,” he said.

Replying to Rahul Gandhi, Vijay expressed gratitude for the outreach. “My sincere thanks to the Hon’ble Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha for the call and kind wishes. We remain committed to excellence in public service and preserving the cultural ethos of our state. Beyond politics, our priority will be the welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu,” he said.

TVK Stakes Claim, Emerges as Single Largest Party

The TVK has already staked a claim to form the next government after emerging as the single largest party with 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly.

However, with the majority mark set at 118, no party has secured a clear mandate, setting the stage for intense negotiations and possible alliances to form the government.

Stalin Concedes Defeat

Meanwhile, M. K. Stalin, president of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and outgoing Chief Minister, conceded defeat and accepted the people’s verdict.

In a post on X, Stalin acknowledged the outcome of what was a closely contested election and congratulated the winning side, marking a significant political transition in the state.

A Major Political Shift in Tamil Nadu

The results represent one of the most significant political realignments in Tamil Nadu in recent years. The rise of TVK has broken the traditional bipolar dominance of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

The verdict is widely seen as a generational shift in voter sentiment, particularly among younger voters who rallied behind a new political alternative, reshaping the state’s political landscape.
