Juvenile Justice Act 2015: Draft rules released by Union government
The rules, framed by a multi-disciplinary committee, are said to be child-friendly in nature and expected to help the police, children's court and other bodies to deal with juvenile criminals in an appropriate manner.
Forms have also been drafted so that the prescribed procedures are also standardised and simplified, according to media reports.
No child between 16 and 18 years of age can be handcuffed or sent to lock up, providing proper medical and legal help to juvenile criminals, setting up safe rehab centre for them, are a few of the key features of the draft rules.
Also included under the Act are offences against children such as sale and procurement of children for any purpose, corporal punishment in child care institutions, use of child by militant or adult groups, and giving them intoxicating liquor or narcotic drug or psychotropic substance or tobacco products.
