Dirty campaign failed to defeat us: Mamata; CM thanks people for returning her
Kolkata, May 19 (IBNS) All set to form the government again in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday said she is grateful to people who voted for her despite vicious propaganda against her party when at times political decorum was crossed by the rivals.
"Development is our only weapon. I dedicate the victory to people. I am not smiling, I want people to smile and that is my smile. People rejected terror of Delhi and I vow to take Bengal forward and make it best," said Mamata Banerjee, urging all to maintain peace.
"I am a commoner. I am not a VIP, I am an LIP or Less Important Person. I will work for the people of India," she said.
She said there is no corruption and the state is free from such evils and people did not believe in the lies of corruption and they rejected it.
"This has never happened. The entire opposition had united but still we won. There was even an atmosphere of fear created during the polling, but still people still voted peacefully and supported us," said Banerjee.
"We thank the common people, we are grateful to them that they voted for us often standing in queue," she said.
"I think there should be minimum respect from one political to another. Lies were spread ahead of polls and it is not good for democracy or politics. It is dangerous for democracy," she said.
Banerjee said there was also terror by the central police who misbehaved with people.
"Many could not go out and vote," said Banerjee.
"Today I do not want to say anything against those who maligned me even personally. I urge all to learn lessons," she said.
She said victory will be celebrated from May 20 to 30 with various cultural events.
"May 27 we will take oath in West Bengal," Banerjee said, adding that all leaders will meet on May 20.
"We do not support BJP, we are not ideologically akin, but we can support good programmes which benefit people," said Banerjee, adding that the Congress did political blunder by joining hands with Left.
The TMC supremo said the national media worked without any bias while the regional media tried to discredit them. She even took names of channels and journalists of national media whose assessments were proved right as against regional media.
Of the 294 seats, Mamata Banerjee's TMC is ahead in 214 seats while the opposition Left Front-Congress alliance is leading in 72 seats. The BJP is leading in four seats.
