Bengal polls: ECI to put TMC leader Anubrata Mondal under 24x7 surveillance
Kolkata/New Delhi, Apr 15 (IBNS): After receiving a huge number of allegations against Trinamool Congress (TMC) Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal, from all opposition parties, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday evening decided to put Anubrata Mondal under 24x7 magistrate surveillance, reports said.
A day before West Bengal's politically crucial Birbhum district goes for assembly polls, the ECI has directed the CEO of Bengal to keep watch on each and every movement and poll related activities of TMC leader Anubrata Mondal from Saturday morning, who allegedly threatened to conduct opposition-free election in Birbhum.
According to the order of ECI, Mondal will be videographed invariably and continuously, with date and time stamping, by a team comprising of a local magistrate and Central Paramilitary Force personnel.
According to sources, the CEO of West Bengal has forwarded the direction to the District Magistrate of Birbhum.
Reacting on the issue, TMC leader Anubrata Mondal told IBNS, "I have not received any such notice from Election Commission yet. I don't know why are they taking this step against me! I respect the ECI and chief election commissioner as well. I will obey all directions of ECI."
Earlier on Thursday, after a mid-course review meeting in Kolkata, Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi assured to take urgent legal steps against Anubrata Mondal.
In the evening, the ECI replaced Birbhum SP Mukesh Kumar by SS (CID) Sabyasachi Raman Mishra and removed OCs of three police stations- Labhpur, Mayureshwar and Bolpur- of the same district.
