Agreeing on mutually acceptable LAC can solve border transgressions: India to China
Beijing, Apr 18 (IBNS): Indian Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, who met his Chinese counterpart Chang Wanquan, a General with the People's Liberation Army, on Monday here said the solution to the problem of border transgressions with China is to agree on a mutually acceptable Line of Actual Control (LAC).
Parrikar said the process of "actually marking" the LAC is essential for proper border management.
"Without that everything goes by perceptions, which has caused problems sometimes," he told media.
The Indian Defence Minister said that there is a need for proper border management, thereby ruling out a time limit for an agreement on the LAC.
"Timeline is difficult in such matters. We have said that we are a old civilization. Good relations with us would be good for the region as a whole," said he.
Parrikar is on a five-day visit to the neighbouring country.
He has also raised the issue about China’s involvement in projects in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
"We made our stand very clear…that India has strong reservations on their (China’s) activities in PoK. They noted our concerns. They explained that (the involvement) was on the economic aspect, with nothing against India from the defence or military side,” Parrikar told reporters.
