Activist Trupti Desai attacked at Mahalakshmi Temple
Desai, whose name is doing the rounds, ever since the Temple row erupted in November last year, reportedly was roughened up after she got into a scuffle with the temple priests and other devotees while leading a team of women and was stopped at the temple gates for wearing a salwar kameez instead of the recommended dress code of a sari.
Desai and fellow activists were celebrating their victory against old temple norms, as a historic decision passed by the Bombay High Court ruled in their favour. Allowing women to enter the sanctum sanctorum of all temples across the state.
Further, a decision by the Supreme Court on Wednesday read that women should be allowed to enter a temple, as it is their constitutional right. The apex court also said that in Hindu customs, everyone is said to receive equal treatment, thus, barring them from doing so will be going against the very nature of belief.
