Kabul/IBNS: The Taliban, which has invaded Afghanistan, has requested to address the world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at New York in the United States, media reports said.

The insurgent group has named Doha-based spokesperson, Suhail Shaheen, as the UN ambassador.

A UN committee will decide whether the request will be approved or not.

Shaheen's address is unlikely to happen during this session of UNGA, BBC reported.

As the United States has withdrawn its troops from the country after 20 years, insurgent group Taliban invaded Afghanistan almost completely on Aug 15 by storming into the capital city of Kabul.

Following the invasion, men, women rushed to the Kabul Airport in a desperate attempt to flee the country and take refuge in other parts of the country.
