Taliban presence in Pakistan jeopardises Afghanistan Peace: Afghan Foreign Ministry

| @indiablooms | Dec 25, 2020, at 10:43 pm

Kabul/UNI: The Afghan Foreign ministry on Friday said that Taliban presence in Pakistan is a threat to peace and stability in Afghanistan.

In an official statement, the Ministry labelled presence of Taliban fighters inside Pakistan as a “clear violation of Afghanistan’s national sovereignty,”.

The Ministry was categorically reacting to a recent video featuring Taliban deputy leader Abdul Ghani Baradar addressing Taliban members in Pakistan's Karachi last week. Mullah Baradar and the Taliban’s negotiating team visited Pakistan last week.

The statement said that the presence of the Taliban leaders and fighters in Pakistan will mean a continuation of the ongoing crisis and instability in the region and it will threaten efforts for ensuring lasting peace in Afghanistan.

Calling upon Pakistan to prevent insurgents from using its territory against Afghanistan, it said that closing the safe havens of insurgents and terrorists is pivotal for a peaceful end to the crisis in Afghanistan.

Baradar in the video which is viral on the social media, is heard saying that all decisions regarding the peace process are being finalized in consultation with the Taliban’s leadership and the Taliban’s cleric council in Pakistan, suggesting that Pakistan based clerics exercise an influence over the Taliban. Baradar said the Taliban’s leadership exists in Pakistan.

He is further heard saying, “Here, though, everything has passed us by, but we are compelled to come because there are not a few people here, our entire leadership is present here in this place (Pakistan)."
