Taliban ends Eid ceasefire in Afghanistan

| @indiablooms | Jun 18, 2018, at 09:48 am

Kabul, June 18 (IBNS): It appears that the widely cheered ceasefire between Taliban and Afghanistan security forces is over.

The ceasefire was announced by both the side by keeping in mind the Eid festival.

"The Taliban said its militants had been ordered to take up arms again on Sunday night - now the Eid festival had ended, " reported BBC.

However, the Afghanistan government has said that it will continue a unilateral ceasefire for another 10 days.

However, the security forces could defend themselves in case they are attacked.

During the ceasefire, there were some special moments created when security forces men could be seen hugging the  Taliban insurgents.

Ceasefire fails to prevent violence completely:

Afghanistan, however, witnessed suicide attacks during the days when ceasefire was observed.

Nangarhar Attacks:

The death toll in the suicide bombing at a gathering of Taliban and Afghan forces in the eastern city of Nangarhar in Afghanistan on Saturday has touched 36, media reports said on Sunday.

Public Health Director Najibullah Kamawal confirmed to Pajhwok 36 people had been killed and over sixty injured in the blast.

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) has claimed responsibility of the attack.

Jalalabad suicide attack:

At least 18 people were killed in a suicide bombing in Jalalabad city of Afghanistan on Sunday, media reports said.

The blast left 45 others injured.

A suicide bomber detonated his explosives close to the governor’s compound in Jalalabad city in eastern Nangarhar province on Sunday afternoon, local officials confirmed, reported Tolo News.

According to reports, the blast occurred in PD1 in Jalalabad at about 3pm local time.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
