Sri Kajamukam Chelliah, a Sri Lankan origin Canadian, has been sentenced to 32 months in prison in the US for attempting to bring six Sri Lankan nationals illegally into the United States.

He pleaded guilty to all charges in Miami Federal Court in the US, reported Miami Herald.

According to his own admission, his plan included bringing six Sri Lankan nationals to Miami. Over the last two years, he first brought them to Haiti. From there, his plan was to put them on a boat to Turks and Caicos, then from there to the Bahamas and from the Bahamas to Miami.

However, he reached a dead end when Turks and Caicos authorities intercepted the boat. He got nine months in Turks and Caicos prison and would serve the US term after completing it.
