Islamabad: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president and National Assembly Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif has said the country's record trade deficit touched at more than $5 billion this month was an alarming sign of economic catastrophe.

Shehbaz, in a statement, said the record increase in trade deficit was a clear indication of imbalance in the country’s imports and exports, reports The Nation.

He said the latest statistics show that the inflow of dollars in the country had decreased.

The rupee was under tremendous increasing pressure due to which its value was constantly declining. The dollar had already crossed Rs 180, while the inflation was rising further which was terrible news for the country, he was quoted as saying by The Nation.

Shehbaz said the economy of the country has touched reverse gear.
