Pakistan: Mill owners strike protesting against propose taxes, flour supple disrupted in several cities
Islamabad: Several Pakistani cities are witnessing disruption in flour supply following a strike by Flour Mills Association due to proposed taxes by the country's government.
Flour price has spiked following the strike.
According to mill owner Chaudhry Shafiq, 1,500 flour mills across the country will remain closed from Friday, reports Samaa TV.
The Federal Board of Revenue earlier announced that the minimum tax rate on flour mills will be 0.25% of their turnover, the Pakistani news channel reported.
Mill owners across the country have stopped supply of flour following the tax rate announcement.
In Faisalabad, 60 flour mills have been shut down, after which the supply of flour in the city has been disrupted. The price of a 20kg bag has gone up by Rs250, reports the Pakistani news channel.
