Lahore: The statue of 19th century Sikh ruler Maharaja Ranjit Singh was vandalized in Pakistan's Lahore city, media reports said. One person was arrested.

Zaheer, a resident of Harbanspura area of the provincial capital, broke an arm of the statue which is placed near Shahi Qila, Lahore, reports The Express Tribune.

The accused has reportedly confessed his crime.

In his initial statement to the police, the suspect claimed that Ranjit Singh’s statue should not have been built as he had committed atrocities against Muslims when he was a ruler, the Pakistan-based newspaper reported.

Police have registered a case against the accused.

A further investigation into the matter is currently on.
