An additional sessions judge, Tilla Mohammad, observed that during course of inquiry, the accused-petitioner was traced from his motorcar, which was taken from CCTV footage of the occurrence, reported Dawn News.

The judge observed that the accused-petitioner after his arrest rightly pointed out the place of occurrence where he admitted he had thrown away by desecrating the copies of the Holy Quran, the Pakistani newspaper reported.

The judge observed that in those circumstances there was a link between the accused and the commission of the offence and he did not commit an ordinary act and it disturbed the sentiments of Muslim community members.

“Hence, on the basis of tentative assessment and on the basis of recovery memo available on file accused/petitioner is found linked with the commission of the offence. Resultantly, the instant bail petition is hereby dismissed,” the court ruled as quoted by Dawn News.

An FIR was lodged in the case at  Hayatabad police station under section 295-B (defiling of copy of the Holy Quran) of the Pakistan Penal Code on Jan 30, 2025.

The accused is charged with throwing copies of the Quran in a dustbin close to the  Hayatabad police station.

An official at Hayatabad Police station, who didn’t want to be named, told Dawn News that apparently the act of the suspect was not intentional.
