Islamabad: The Pakistan government has appointed an Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) officer as the chief executive officer (CEO) of the project management unit (PMU) that oversees the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, Kartapur Sahib in Narowal district of Pakistan Punjab, The Times of India reported.

Intelligence sources told the newspaper Muhammad Abu Bakar Aftab Qureshi, deputy director general of Directorate General Inter-Services Intelligence had been assigned the charge of the post of CEO, PMU, Kartarpur Sahib, for three years.

The notification was issued on January 11 by Munir Ahmad, deputy secretary (administration) of Evacuee Trust Property Board, a Pakistan government department, to look after the religious places and the properties left in Pakistan during the Partition. Before this, ISI chief Javed Nasir was the chairman of the ETPB.

The Kartarpur Corridor is a visa-free border crossing and religious corridor, connecting the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, near Lahore in Pakistan to Gurudwara Dera Baba Nanak, Gurdaspur district, Punjab, India.

The crossing allows devotees from India to visit the gurdwara in Kartarpur, Pakistan, 4.7 km (2.9 miles) from the India–Pakistan border on the Pakistani side without a visa.
