Justin Trudeau, Joe Biden discuss arbitrary detention of two Canadians by China

Washington: US President Joe Biden and Canadian PM Justin Trudeau recently interacted over the detention of two Canadian nationals by China.

The two Canadian nations were identified as Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor.

A White House statement read: "The President and Prime Minister then discussed the two Canadian citizens—Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor—who are unjustly detained by the People’s Republic of China."

Joe Biden condemned their 'arbitrary detention' and reiterated his commitment to stand strong with Canada to secure their release.

Michael Spavor was arrested two years ago along with fellow Canadian and former diplomat Michael Kovrig.The detentions came days after Canada detained Meng Wanzhou, a senior executive at Chinese tech giant Huawei, on a US warrant, reports BBC.
