China: Lockdown imposed on Baise city as COVID-19 cases rise

Baise: Authorities have imposed a lockdown in Baise city of China after  98 people tested positive for COVID-19 in a preliminary screening test carried out on Sunday.

The lockdown is implemented from Monday.

Previously, the city reported 43 confirmed cases, local authorities told Global Times.

The first round of large-scale nucleic acid test involved over 200,000 local residents. A total of 98 tests returned with positive results and 87 have been reexamined, reports the newspaper.

Baise has a population of 4 million people.

China's capital Beijing city is currently hosting the Winter Olympics.
