Blast at US embassy in Afghanistan on 9/11 anniversary, no casualty

Kabul, Sep 11 (UNI) A rocket blast hit the US Embassy in Afghanistan early Wednesday, just minutes into the 18th anniversary of the 9/11 attack.

"A rocket hit a wall at the Defense Ministry, with no casualties reported," Interior Ministry spokesman Nosrat Rahimi said in a statement.

'An explosion caused by a rocket has occurred on compound,' a message said over the embassy loudspeakers.

Nobody has claimed responsibility for the attack.

It was the first major attack in the Afghan capital since US President Donald Trump called off US-Taliban talks over the weekend.

Last month, Trump told reporters, 'We've been a peacekeeper there, in a way, for 19 years. At a certain point you have to say that’s long enough.'

Last week, Taliban car bombings led to the deaths of several civilians and two members of NATO. A US service member was also killed. The US President has cited his death as the main reason why the US-Taliban talks were called off.
