Bangladesh, Maldives hold talks on intelligence sharing to fight against terrorism
Dhaka, Sept 4 (IBNS): Leaders of Bangladesh and Maldives recently met and discussed the need to exchange intelligence in order to combat terrorism, media reports said.
Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam, MP, called on the President of the Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in Male on the sidelines of the 4th Indian Ocean Conference.
At the outset, the State Minister conveyed the greetings of Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to President Solih, read a statement issued by Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The need for exchanging of intelligence for combating terrorism was discussed during the meeting, read the official statement.
During their meeting, cooperation on ocean and maritime issues was discussed and both sides stressed on the need for sustainable harnessing of oceanic resources.
The Maldivian President sought greater support from Bangladesh in the area of medical education for prospective students from Maldives.
