Bangladesh government to disburse $53 million ahead of Eid

Around 10 million households in Bangladesh will receive $5 dollars from the Bangladesh government in direct cash transfer ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, reported Dhaka Tribune. The program is launched to help the vulnerable group on the occasion of the birth centenary of Bangladesh’s founding father Sheikh Mujirbur Rahman.

Bangladesh’s Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, in a notification released on Wednesday, said the government has allocated around $53.1 million for the scheme.

“Priority will be given to households affected by recent natural calamities and destitute families,” the statement reads. “Amid the ongoing Covid-19 situation, this assistance provided before the holy month of Ramadan will help increase the purchasing power of those families,” it added.

Helpless, and poor families, in the country, would get much-needed assistance to celebrate the festival.
