Bangladesh: Chinese people running illegal factories
Dhaka: The recent fire incident in a Bangladesh factory has now brought to the attention the existence of illegal factories in the country, many of which are run by Chinese nationals.
For the last seven years illegal factories have been established in Bangladesh for manufacturing batteries. These factories are run by Chinese businessmen, reports The Economic Times.
Although there are no legal papers for operating these kinds of illegal factories, they are not being touched by the government, ET has learnt.
The news is about the Narayanganj Moukuli Bazar factory which was earlier a textile mill but for the last 4 years the factory is being used illegally for the manufacturing of batteries. There is no signboard outside the factory and nobody knows the name of the battery. The people in the nearby area are aware that this factory belongs to Chinese businessmen, the Indian newspaper reported.
As Chinese nationals cannot purchase land in Bangladesh, influential people are helping Chinese nationals to set up factories, reports the newspaper.
There is no legal work permit available with the Chinese nationals and all the factories are running illegally, The Economic Times reported.
Police arrested eight people, including the owner of Sajeeb Group and his sons, in connection with the fire incident.
The fire incident last week left 52 people dead.
