Kabul: After being detained for four days, the body of Qassim Qayim, an officer of the Afghanistan Ministry of Interior, who had served both under the former government and the current government, has been handed over to his family by the Sardar Mohammad Dawood Khan Hospital, media reports said on Tuesday.

The family told Tolo News they received his corpse on Sunday and that the body had signs of torture.

Hamid, 11, his oldest son, told the news portal: " He had a very good ethic. He never beat us. He loved us a lot."

"My brother was a man of the pen. He had a master’s degree and never used a gun. He trusted the general amnesty and came to this government. But unfortunately (they) martyred him. He left four children behind—all of them underage,” said Mujahid Qayim,  a brother of the officer.

Qassim Qayim had worked for at least seven months with the MoI after the fall of the former government, reports Tolo News.

The Ministry of Interior said it will probe the incident.
