Tourism minister provides details of annual revenue from ASI's historical tourist place

New Delhi, Apr 27 (IBNS) Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State for Culture and Tourism (Independent Charge) and Minister of State for Civil Aviation in a written reply in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday said that the annual revenue through entry fee at centrally protected ticketed monuments/sites and museums of Archaeological Survey of India during the year 2014-15 was Rs.9358.93 lakhs against an expenditure of Rs.23551.95 lakhs during the same period.

The minister further said that the centrally protected monuments/ sites are conserved, preserved and maintained by way of structural repairs on need basis, as per archaeological norms, subject to availability of resources.

In addition to conservation, preservation, day-to-day maintenance, and development of environs of centrally protected monuments including providing of tourist related amenities (e.g. drinking water, toilet blocks, facilities for physically challenged, pathways, cultural notice boards/signage, vehicle parking, cloak rooms, etc.) at the centrally protected monuments/sites are the regular activities which the ASI undertakes as per needs and availability of resources.

For 2015-16. the expenditure incurred on monuments/sites of national importance in the country was Rs.23861.24 lakhs.

Separately, he also said that the entry fee for centrally protected ticketed monuments has been increased with effect from April 1, 2016.
