Civil aviation ministry relaxes Covid travel rules ahead of international flight ops' resumption
New Delhi/IBNS: The Ministry of Civil Aviation has relaxed the travel rules which were in place to stem the COVID-19 spread stating the cabin crew will from now on not be required to wear the PPE kit and that airlines need not keep three seats vacant on international flights for medical emergencies.
Besides, the security personnel at airports can resume pat-down searches of passengers.
The relaxation has been initiated to ensure smooth functioning of the air operations, the ministry has said.
"Airlines may carry a few additional PPE protective gears, sanitiser and N-95 masks, to handle any respiratory infections related to cases on air, for passengers as well as the crew," the MoCA order noted.
While full domestic flight operations commenced on Oct 18 last year, the ministry has decided to resume full international flight operations from March 27.
However, the mandatory use of face masks and maintenance of hand hygiene/sanitiser will continue, the ministry added.
The relaxations come amid a decline in the number of daily Covid infections in India and a significant increase in vaccinations.
India registered 1,549 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours with the daily positivity rate touching 0.40 percent, as per data released by the Ministry of Health on Monday.
In the past 24 hours, 31 people died due to the virus.
