Vijayawada/UNI: Andhra Pradesh Tourism minister Muttamsetti Srinivas Rao said that the boating to the famous Papikondalu in the Godavari river would be resumed in the first week of July.

The tourism minister held a meeting with the operators of boats here on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that it had been decided to resume boating operations to famous tourism place Papikondalu in the river Godavari, in the first week of July.

The boating operations in the other rivers would be resumed in a phased manner, the minister said.

“As many as 9 command control rooms were set up especially to monitor the boating operations and take precautionary measures”, he said. The boating operations were halted in AP due to the Coronavirus pandemic a few months ago.

The minister said that over 300 mechanised boats were being operated in various rivers in the state of which 48 boats belonged to the state Tourism department.

The tourism minister said that all the famous tourist places in the state were closed a few months ago due to Covid curfew and all the places were reopened on Thursday as the pandemic had started subsiding.

Though the government is committed to implementing prohibition, the sale of quality liquor was permitted especially for the international tourists as part of promoting tourism in the state, the minister clarified.
