Kolkata, Nov 18 (IBNS): The 'Weekend Wonders' fair recently organised in Kolkata by West Bengal Tourism and the Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industries focused on an important segment of travel - weekend trips.

According to Indrajit Sen, President, Bengal Chamber, weekend travel is an important part of today's lifestyle, an escape from the hectic schedules.

In January 2017, the Bengal Chamber, in collaboration with the state tourism, had launched a special weekend destination website (www.bengalweekend.com) that provides details on destinations across West Bengal.

The travel fair was an extension of the website, said Sen.

According to state tourism minister Goutam Deb and others present at the inauguration this initiative will help drive tourism into hitherto unexplored regions and provide a platform to resort owners, travel agents, tour operators and various other stakeholders of the tourism fraternity to showcase their products, communicate with the travelers and in the process uphold various culture, spiritual and natural reserves of Bengal.

Shantiram Mahato , Minister in Charge, Paschimanchal Unnayan Affairs Department, Debashis Sen, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, and Debasish Kumar, mayor in council, Kolkata Muncipal Corporation were also present.

A colorful presentation by the Chhau dancers from Purulia delighted the visitors.
