Winning is important but way you win more important: Sachin Tendulkar on ball-tampering row
Mumbai, Mar 29 (IBNS): Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar believes the ban imposed by Cricket Australia on three of its players including the captain and vice-captain of the national side over the ball tampering incident is apt.
Tendulkar said in a tweet that winning is important but the way of reaching the victory mark on the cricket field is more important.
Former Australian captain Steve Smith and his deputy David Warner have been banned for a 12 month period by Cricket Australia from international cricket for their attempt to tamper with the ball on the third day of the Cape Town test against South Africa, media reports said on Wednesday.
Also involved in the cheating case, now infamously dubbed as the Sandpapergate, Cameron Bancroft has been banned for nine months.
Reacting to the ball-tampering row, former Indian captain Sachin Tendulkar tweeted, "Cricket has been known as a gentleman's game. It's a game that I believe should be played in the purest form. Whatever has happened is unfortunate but the right decision has been taken to uphold the integrity of the game. Winning is important but the way you win is more important" the former Indian captain said while reacting to the row."

Smith has also been banned from captaining Australia for a period of two years.
However, Smith and Warner will be back in time for the ICC World Cup in England and then the Ashes. Bancroft, meanwhile, returns in time for summer with India to tour Australia at the time.
Smith is due to depart for Australia today and will speak publicly upon his arrival home in Sydney.
Both Smith and Warner have been banned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from playing for their respective Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises in 2018.
