From Everest to Elbrus: HMI chief Col Rajneesh Joshi conquers Europe’s highest peak
Kolkata/IBNS: Colonel Rajneesh Joshi, Principal, Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI), Darjeeling has added one more feather in his caps when he summited Mount Elbrus (5,642 m) in Russia, the highest peak in Europe on August 14, according to report on Saturday.
In a proud moment for West Bengal and HMI, Col Joshi carried the spirit and pride of the state to the highest point of Europe.
An accomplished Indian Army officer and mountaineer, Col Rajneesh Joshi had earlier climbed Mount Everest and more than 45 major peaks across the Himalayas and other mountain ranges.
His notable ascents include Mt Nun, Mt Kun, Mt Abi Gamin, Mt Domekhang and Mt Kilimanjaro.
His mountaineering achievements have earned him recognition in the World Book of Records, Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records.
He has also led and participated in several challenging expeditions and has made significant contributions to promote mountaineering and adventure activities through HMI.
The successful Elbrus ascent adds another prestigious international summit to his distinguished mountaineering career and brings great pride to West Bengal, HMI and the Indian Army.
