‘Dilli, it’s time for Dadagiri’: Sourav Ganguly named Delhi Capitals head coach for IPL 2027

New Delhi/IBNS: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has been appointed as the head coach of Delhi Capitals for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

From advisor to head coach

Ganguly, who is currently the president of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), has been associated with the franchise since 2019, initially serving as an advisor before taking charge as Director of Cricket for both the men's and women's teams.

His appointment as head coach marks a transition from an advisory and administrative role to direct responsibility for the team's on-field campaign.

Ganguly's vision for DC

The co-owners highlighted Ganguly's deep understanding of the franchise and his leadership experience while announcing his appointment.

Ganguly, meanwhile, expressed his commitment to building a strong and fearless squad, with the objective of challenging for the IPL title.

The franchise announced the appointment on social media, describing Ganguly as the new "Head Coach of the Tigers".

Delhi Capitals' recent struggles

Delhi Capitals have experienced an inconsistent run in recent IPL seasons.

The team missed the playoffs in both 2025 and 2026, despite winning seven matches in each campaign.

Delhi's best IPL performance remains their runners-up finish in 2020, when they reached the final for the first time.

With no IPL title to their name and only one final appearance, the franchise will now look to Ganguly to help build a team capable of mounting a stronger title challenge.
