West Indies narrow deficit, batsmen keep side afloat

Kingston, Aug 3 (IBNS): A counter attacking and determined brand of cricket from the Caribbean batsmen on Wednesday morning proved to be useful for their side, as it kept them in the game, after a mini collapse in a rain truncated session triggered a scare on Tuesday.

At lunch, West Indies have lost just the one wicket and have put on 215 runs for the loss of five wickets, in an extended session of play.

Starting the day with 48 runs for the loss of four wickets, Jermaine Blackwood and Roston Chase provided their side with a flying start, scoring 40 runs in four overs.

Blackwood and Chase also stitched together a 93-run partnership for the fifth wicket, to save the visiting side the blushes.

Blackwood (63), who scored a pair in the first Test match, followed it up with a couple of fifties in the ongoing Test.

His 54-ball innings was cut short by Ravichandran Ashwin, who added one more to take his tally of wickets in the series to 14.

Chase, who is unbeaten at 70 runs, also accounted for five Indian batsmen to put up a decent all round performance.

Providing company to Chase is Shane Dowrich, who is unbeaten at 33

The duo have put up an unbeaten 74 runs for the sixth wicket

West Indies are still 89 runs behind India's first innings score.
