London, July 8 (IBNS): Indian skipper Virat Kohli on Monday said iconic player and former captain MS Dhoni will always be respected by them for the chances he gave them as the leader of the team in the past.

Kohli had mad his international debut under the leadership of Dhoni.

" We will always respect him because of the chances he gave us and the faith he has shown in us. When a person has done so much for the team, you have to acknowledge that," Kohli was quoted as saying during a press conference ahead of the semi-final clash against New Zealand.

Kohli said Dhoni made significant transformation from captaining the team to being a player.

"He gives you space to make your own decisions. But when I ask him, he always gives me advice," he said.

Kohli will lead India in the first semi-final match of the World Cup.

India topped the group stage of the tournament.

This is the first World Cup India is playing under Kohli's leadership.
