VVS Laxman turns 44, former teammates shower wishes

Hyderabad, Nov 1 (IBNS): Several former Indian cricketers have showered wishes upon VVS Laxman, who turned 44 on Thursday.

Laxman, a former right-handed batsman, made his Test debut back in 1996. Two years later, Laxman made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe.

Often referred to as 'Very Very Special Laxman', the former cricketer was an integral part of the Indian Test batting line up for years.

His 281 against Australia at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, was one of the memorable innings he had played in his Test career.

Laxman's 281-run knock helped India to bounce back in the match to register a memorable Test victory after being forced to follow on.

He scored 8,781 runs in 134 Test matches.

Laxman retired from the international cricket in 2012.

Former Indian opening batsman Virender Sehwag tweeted, "The man whose wrists are worth preserving and having an insurance , wishing a special birthday to a really special man, kalaai jaadugar @VVSLaxman281 !"

Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar tweeted, "281 is a Very Very Special number for every Indian. Happy Birthday, @vvslaxman281. Wishing you a wonderful year ahead."

Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly said on Twitter, "@VVSLaxman281 happy birthday to one of my heroes .. a perfect gentleman and a terrific batsman .. happy birthday Vvs "

Mohammad Kaif tweeted, "He knew the Importance of Power nap, during his long innings during his playing days and continuing with the trend in the commentary box. A man at ease and at peace, Happy Birthday @VVSLaxman281 !"

Suresh Raina said in a tweet, "Happy birthday @VVSLaxman281 bhai! Wishing you all the health and happiness! #HappyBirthdayVVSLaxman"
