Serena Williams overtakes Roger Federer for most slam matches victory

| | Sep 06, 2016, at 08:41 pm
New York, Sept 6 (IBNS) : Serena Williams scripted a new history when she surpassed Roger Federer with her 308th grand slam match victory to storm into the US Open quarter-finals on Monday by defeating Kazakhstan‘s Yaroslava Shvedova 6-2 6-3, reports said.

The world number one needed just 68 minutes on Arthur Ashe Stadium court to decimate the 52nd-ranked Shvedova.

This is a record  on the all-time list of matches won at tennis‘s four blue riband events.

“I just think winning 308 matches in general is pretty awesome. For that to be in a grand slam is pretty cool," Serena, who will turn 35 on September 26, said.

Over her career, she is 308-42 at the majors, for a winning percentage of .880.

Federer is 307-51 (.858) and can't increase his total until next season, because he is sitting out the U.S. Open and the rest of 2016 because of problems with his surgically repaired right knee.
