Sachin Tendulkar's coach Ramakant Achrekar passes away

Mumbai, Jan 2 (IBNS): Ramakant Achrekar, who is known to be the architect of cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar's cricket career, passed away on Wednesday.

Coach Achrekar was 87.

He also served as a selector of the Mumbai cricket team.

Some other cricketers who had trained under Achrekar were Vinod Kambli, Pravin Amre, Ajit Agarkar.

In 1990, Achrekar was honoured with the Dronacharya Award.

In 2010, he was conferred Padma Shri. In the same year, he was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award by former South African cricketer Gary Kirsten, who was then the Indian coach.

Condoling his death, Board of Cricket for Cricket in India (BCCI) tweeted, "The BCCI expresses its deepest sympathy on the passing of Dronacharya award-winning guru Shri Ramakant Achrekar. Not only did he produce great cricketers, but also trained them to be fine human beings. His contribution to Indian Cricket has been immense."
