Russia doping scandal: At least 1000 athletes involved, says McLaren report

| | Dec 10, 2016, at 06:08 pm
Moscow, Dec 10 (IBNS): The McLaren report, authored by lawyer Richard McLaren has said that at least 1000 Russian athletes benefitted from a state-sponsored doping programme in 2011 and 2015, media reports said.

The reports also said that at least 30 sports have been covered to collect samples.

"It was a cover-up that evolved from uncontrolled chaos to an institutionalised and disciplined medal-winning conspiracy," McLaren said.

The effect was felt in 2012 London Olympics, where the Russian contingent won 72 medals, 21 of which were Gold.

"The desire to win medals superseded their collective moral and ethical compass and Olympic values of fair play," the lawyer added.

He has also accused Russia to deceiving sports fans for years.
