Rio: Germany beat India 2-1 in Hockey thriller

Rio de Janeiro, Aug 8 (IBNS): Monday remained another disappointing day for Indian athletes with even the national side being defeated by Germany in a group B thriller of the men's Hockey event of the ongoing Rio Olympics here on Monday.

Germany beat Team India 2-1.

Christopher Ruhr's last-gasp winner broke hearts of millions  of fans across India.

Germany had made a positive start by scoring the opener.

A brilliant field goal by Niklas Wellen in the second quarter put Germany 1-0 up against the Asian side.

India put up a spirited performance on the turf and it was Rupinder Pal Singh  who scored the equaliser as the scorecard showed 1-1.

German players kept attacking and it was Ruhr and his final goal in the match which help them clinch a victory here.
