Rajasthan Royals seal fourth berth in IPL playoffs

Chennai, May 21 (IBNS): Rajasthan Royals secured the fourth position in the Indian Premier League (IPL) standings to reach the playoffs of the tournament after Chennai Super Kings defeated Kings Xi Punjab by five wickets on Sunday.

Punjab have crashed out of the tournament  in the last match of the league stage.

Punjab had to beat Chennai by at least 54 runs to qualify for the playoffs.

In reply to Punjab's 153, Chennai scored 159/5 in 19.1 overs.

The teams qualified for the playoffs are Sunrisers Hyderabad (18 points), Chennai Super Kings (16 points) and Kolkata Knight Riders (16 points), Rajasthan Royals (14 points).

The first qualifier match will be played between Hyderabad and Chennai at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on May 22.

Kolkata will take on Hyderabad to play the eliminator match at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on May 23.
