R Ashwin picks up 300 Test wickets, sets new record
Nagpur, Nov 27 (IBNS): Indian off spinner R Ashwin on Monday broke yet another record during the second Test match against Sri Lanka as he became the fastest bowler in the history of Test cricket to take 300 wickets.
The record was earlier held by Australian fast bowler Dennis Lillee since 1981.
India also defeated Sri Lanka by an innings and 239 runs to take 1-0 lead in the series.
Sri Lanka posted 205 and 166 runs all out in their first and second innings respectively.
India had declared their first innings at 610 runs for the loss of six wickets.
Ashwin picked up four wickets in the innings.
Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja picked up two wickets each.
Ashwin picked up 300 wickets by playing 54 Test.
Lillee had achieved the milestone in 56 Tests.
