Parthiv Patel guides Guyjarat to maiden Ranji Trophy win

Indore, Jan 14 (IBNS): Parthiv Patel played in style as he smashed 143 runs to help Gujarat win their maiden Ranji trophy by beating Mumbai by five wickets on the fifth day of the final of the tournament here on Saturday.

It was Parthiv and his heroic captain's knock which helped Gujarat chase down formidable target of 312 runs in the final.

Parthiv hit 24 boundaries in his knock.

This was the highest total chased down in a Ranji match final.

Mumbai is considered as a tough competitor in the Ranji history as it has won the tournament 41 times.

Parthiv tweeted: "Proud moment for all of us..thank you all for the wishes."

BCCI also congratulated the Gujarat team and posted: "Congrats! Gujarat create history. Claim their first ever #RanjiTrophy title. Moments that will stay with them forever @Paytm 2016-17 #Final."

Gujarat will now face Rest of India in Irani Cup from Jan 20.
