Never meant to demean Anushka: Farokh Engineer after actress hits back

Mumbai/IBNS: Clearing air over his statement where he said the Indian selectors were serving Anushka Sharma tea during World Cup, former cricketer Farokh Engineer said he never intended to demean the Bollywood actress who is also the wife of Indian skipper Virat Kohli.

Engineer clarified after Anushka shared a letter in public asking all people to refrain from dragging her name without proofs in their own opinions. The former cricketer also said the entire matter was blown up unnecessarily.

The genesis of the controversy lies in Engineer's statement where he had said the former cricketer saw all that the selectors were doing in the World Cup in England and Wales was fetching "cups of tea" for Anushka.

Referring to the World Cup match which she had attended, Anushka said, "I came to one game during the World Cup and sat in the family box and not the selectors box as reported but when has the truth mattered when it's about convenience!

If you want to have a comment on the selection committee and qualifications please do so as it's your opinion but don't drag my name into it to substantiate your claim or sensationalise your opinion. I refuse to allow anyone from using my name in such conversations."

Clarifying his statement, Engineer also termed Anushka as a "lovely girl".
