New Delhi, Oct 8 (IBNS) : Skipper Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane steered India to 148 for the loss of three wickets at tea on the opening day of the third and final test match against New Zealand on Saturday pulling the hosts out of an early scare after visitors dealt an early blow picking up three wickets, including that of a well-settled Cheteshwar Pujara.

At the tea break, Kohli and Rahane were at the crease, with 45 and 19 respectively, making a 48-run partnership in the fourth wicket.

The hosts were having a tough time at lunch when the score was  75 for two having lost both the openers- Murali Vijay and Gautam Gambhir.

After winning the toss India elected to bat.
