Jadeja gets Cook as England lose two

Chennai, Dec 16 (IBNS): The usual script unfolded for England as they won the toss, decided to bat first and went through the inevitable hiccup, here on Saturday, day one of the fifth and final Test match against England.

At lunch, England have put on 68 runs for the loss of two wickets.

Cook, who reached 11,000 Test runs today, fell prey to Ravindra Jadeja, yet again. The pattern has been around for some time, with Jadeja getting him five times in the series alone.

He poked at a ball pitched outside off and edged one to Virat Kohli stationed at first slip.

Cook departed for 10, not before he saw the dismissal of the other English opener Keaton Jennings.

Jennings made a splash in international cricket with a maiden century in his very first Test innings but things have gone pear shaped for the south paw.

He was out for a golden duck (out first ball) and succumbed for 1 here on Friday morning.

Jennings was facing Ishant Sharma, who made his comeback in the national colours after a long gap.

Sharma, who first burst into the international scene with an unforgettable spell of fast bowling against Australia in their own backyard, set up the English batsman with a couple of short and short of good length balls.

The Englishman did well to fend those but failed to drive one pitched further up, edging one back to the keeper.

Tottering at 21 runs for the loss of two wickets, Joe Root and Moeen Ali have patched up 47 runs to arrest the Indian momentum.

Root is unbeaten on 44 runs, while Moeen will resume his innings on seven runs.
