India beat NZ by six wickets, level series 1-1

Pune, Oct 25 (IBNS): Disciplined performance by India helped the home side beat New Zealand by six wickets in the second ODI match of the series here on Wednesday.

After restricting New Zealand at 230 runs for the loss of nine wickets, Indian batsmen maintained the momentum and reached 232 runs by losing only four wickets.

Shikhar Dhawan (68) and Dinesh Karthik (64*) ensured India walked out from the park smiling.

Karthik remained at the crease till the end and ensured a victory for the homeside.

He hammered four boundaries in his 92-ball knock.

Dhawan hit five boundaries and two sixes in his innings and helped India get a solid start  after Rohit Sharma departed at his personal score of 7.

Hardik Pandya (30) and MS Dhoni (18) contributed with their willows as India leveled the series 1-1.

Earlier, Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled brilliantly as he helped the home side restrict New Zealand at 230 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the second ODI match of the series here on Wednesday.

Kumar picked up three wickets while Jasprit Bumrah and Yuzvendra Chahal picked up two wickets each to restrict New Zealand below 250-run mark.

New Zealand were in deep trouble earlier as they were reduced to 4-58 after 16 overs.

C de Grandhomme (41) and Henry Nicholls (42) managed to put up a fight and end the total to a respectable position at the end of 50 overs.

New Zealand defeated India in the first ODI.
